Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Skool Video Downloader ("we", "our", or "us") built the Skool Video Downloader Chrome Extension (the "Extension") to protect your privacy. This policy comprehensively describes what data the Extension collects, how it is used and stored, and every third party it is shared with. The short version: all video detection and downloading happens on your device, we run no analytics or advertising, and the only data that ever leaves your browser is described in full below.

3. Information We Collect

We collect no personal browsing data and require no sign-up. Specifically, the Extension handles:

• Video & audio stream URLs.

  While you view a lesson, the Extension detects the video and audio stream URLs on the page (Skool native, Mux, Loom, Vimeo, YouTube, or Wistia). These URLs are used only to perform the download you request. They are held in memory for the download and are never stored permanently or transmitted to our servers.

• Anonymous install ID.

  On install we generate a random identifier that is not tied to your name, email, or Skool account. It is used to enforce the free-tier weekly download allowance and, for Pro users, to validate a license key.

• Free download count & license status.

  A local count of how many free combined downloads you've used in the current 7-day window, and — if you buy Pro — your license key and its status.

• Email address (only if you provide it).

  A trial or purchase is activated with a one-time email code, and you may optionally include your email in a problem report. We never store passwords. See "License & Purchases" and "Problem Reports" below for exactly where this goes.

• Diagnostic data (only when you click "Send report").

  If you choose to send a problem report, the payload contains: the note you type, an optional email if you add one, the Extension version, your browser's user-agent string, your license tier, a short list of videos currently detected on the page (platform, source, and a truncated title), the anonymous install ID, and the last few lines of a local debug log. Nothing is sent unless you explicitly submit the report.

4. How We Store Information

The anonymous install ID, your free download count, license status and key, a cache of the latest-version check, and a short rolling debug log are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. They are not synced to any account and are not shared with third parties beyond the license validation and problem reports described below. Uninstalling the Extension removes this local data.

5. Data Transmission

The Extension makes only the following network requests:

• To the video hosts, to download what you choose.

  When you start a download, the Extension requests the video/audio segments directly from the source and its CDN (Skool, Mux, Loom, Vimeo & vimeocdn, YouTube & Google video servers, Wistia, Akamai, and CloudFront). These are the same servers your browser already contacts to play the lesson, and they receive your IP address and browser headers as with any web request. You initiate every one of these downloads.

• Version check (automatic, at most every 12 hours).

  The Extension fetches skoolvideodownload.com/…/version to learn whether an update is available. The request carries no identifiers; like any HTTP request it exposes your IP address and user-agent to our host (Vercel).

• License validation (Pro users only). [legacy build]

  To activate and periodically revalidate a Pro subscription, the Extension sends your license key and the anonymous install ID to our license server (api.skoolvideodownload.com, hosted on Cloudflare Workers), which validates the key against Freemius (see Third-Party Services). Revalidation runs at most once every 24 hours and sends the same two values — nothing else.

• Problem reports (only when you submit one).

  If you click "Send report", the diagnostic payload described in Section 3 is POSTed to our reports endpoint on Cloudflare Workers (api.freewhopdownloader.com/report, our shared reports worker) so we can diagnose the issue.

• Cancelling, or upgrading monthly → lifetime.

  If you cancel through our cancel-subscription page, the license key you enter (and your email, if you give one) is sent to our licensing worker (api.freewhopdownloader.com, our shared worker on Cloudflare Workers), which cancels the subscription with whichever payment processor issued it. If you buy the lifetime plan while on the monthly plan, the Extension sends your old and new license keys to the same worker so your monthly subscription can be cancelled automatically — without it you would keep being billed.

• Uninstall survey.

  If you uninstall the Extension, Chrome opens a page on skoolvideodownload.com with the Extension version and the anonymous install ID in the URL, so we can offer help and improve the product. Answering the survey is optional.

• SERP account sign-in. [SERP build]

  When you sign in, the Extension sends your email address and the sign-in request to SERP's authentication service (auth.serp.co) and stores a SERP session token, your entitlement status, and related access information in browser storage. Your Skool password is never requested, read, or transmitted.

• Trial enforcement. [SERP build]

  While a limited trial is in effect, the Extension may send SERP's authentication service a session token, a randomly generated device identifier, the entitlement name, a randomly generated download-intent identifier, the operation type, and a locally generated hashed asset identifier. Raw page content and raw media files are not included. This is used only to apply trial limits, confirm entitlement, prevent duplicate trial use, and protect the service from abuse.

• Authentication diagnostics. [SERP build]

  If sign-in fails, diagnostic information may be sent to SERP: the extension identifier, the authentication operation, technical error information, and the account email address associated with the failed request. Authentication tokens, browser cookies, lesson URLs, page content, and media files are not intentionally included.

• Version check via GitHub. [SERP build]

  This build contacts GitHub's public API for version information instead of our own endpoint. The request carries no account credentials, lesson content, or media information; GitHub receives your IP address and user-agent as with any web request.

6. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing

The Extension uses no analytics or advertising services. The parties your data may be shared with are limited to the following:

• Cloudflare Workers. [legacy build]

  Hosts our license-validation endpoint (used only by Pro users), the cancellation/upgrade endpoint used by the cancel-subscription page, and our problem-report intake (used only when you submit a report). These workers relay data to Freemius as described in Section 5; Cloudflare itself stores no license data beyond what is needed to serve the request.

• Dodo Payments (no longer used).

  Dodo Payments briefly acted as merchant of record for purchases made between 26 and 30 July 2026. That arrangement ended and the integration was removed on 1 August 2026: the Extension does not contact Dodo Payments, and no data of any kind is sent to them. Subscriptions bought in that window are honored by our own license server for the month that was paid for. Any data you gave Dodo during that window remains governed by their privacy policy at dodopayments.com/privacy-policy.

• Freemius. [legacy build]

  Our payment and licensing provider, acting as merchant of record for every purchase. Checkout happens on Freemius's own pages, and Freemius processes your email and payment details to create and manage your license. Every license key the Extension validates is checked against Freemius. We never see or store your full payment-card details. Data you provide to Freemius is governed by Freemius's privacy policy at freemius.com/privacy.

• Video hosts & their CDNs.

  Skool, Mux, Loom, Vimeo, YouTube/Google, Wistia, Akamai, and CloudFront receive the download requests you initiate, exactly as they would when you play the lesson normally. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies.

• Vercel. [legacy build]

  Hosts skoolvideodownload.com, which serves the version check and uninstall survey. It receives standard web-request metadata (IP address, user-agent) for those requests.

• SERP. [SERP build]

  From August 2026 SERP operates the Chrome Web Store listing and provides account sign-in, entitlement checks, and trial enforcement through its authentication service, and handles support and purchases for new customers. Exactly what SERP receives is listed in Section 5. Its handling of that data is governed by SERP's extension privacy policy at serp.store/legal/browser-extensions-privacy, and access or deletion requests go to support@serp.store.

• GitHub. [SERP build]

  Serves the public version information this build checks for updates. It receives standard web-request metadata (IP address, user-agent) and no account, lesson, or media data.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with any party except as described above.

7. Local Processing & Merging

Converting streams to MP4 and merging video with audio happens entirely on your device using a bundled WebAssembly component (ffmpeg.wasm) running in an offscreen document. Your video and audio are never uploaded to any server for processing.

8. License & Purchases

Trial and license activation use a one-time email code — no passwords are stored. Purchases are processed by Freemius (see Third-Party Services); we receive only what is necessary to validate your license and never store payment-card details.

9. Required Permissions

The Extension requests only the permissions it needs to work:

• webRequest & host access:

  Detects the video and audio stream URLs on the page and captures the request headers needed to fetch them, so Skool native, Loom, Vimeo, YouTube, and Wistia streams can be identified and downloaded. Used only for the video hosts listed in this policy.

• declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess:

  Re-attaches the correct Referer/Origin request headers when fetching video segments directly, so token-gated streams are accepted by the host.

• downloads:

  Saves the finished MP4 (or audio-only / video-only file) to your Downloads folder and keeps the progress tracker accurate.

• offscreen:

  Runs the bundled ffmpeg.wasm merge engine in a background document to convert HLS segments into MP4 without freezing your lesson tab.

• storage & activeTab:

  Store license and download-manager state locally, and read the active tab so downloads apply to the lesson you're viewing. Nothing is synced or transmitted.

• alarms:

  Keeps the background service worker responsive during long downloads and schedules the periodic version and license-revalidation checks.

10. Your Skool Login

The Extension relies on your existing logged-in browser session to reach member-only content: Chrome attaches your session cookies to authorized requests automatically, exactly as it does when you browse Skool. The Extension does not use the cookies permission, and it never reads, stores, or transmits your Skool credentials or cookies.

11. Your Rights & Choices

Because your data lives locally, you stay in control:

• Clear the Extension's stored data at any time through Chrome's extension settings.
• Uninstall the Extension, which removes all locally stored data.
• Problem reports and the uninstall survey are optional — nothing diagnostic is sent unless you choose to send it.
• For questions about data held by Freemius, contact them directly or see their privacy policy.
• [SERP build] To request access to or deletion of personal information held by SERP — your account email, the randomly generated device identifier, entitlement records, and diagnostic records — email support@serp.store. SERP states it retains these only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, legal obligations, dispute resolution, and service protection.
• [legacy build] Licences bought from us before the SERP transition continue to be honoured and continue to validate against our own licence server. We hold no personal data for them beyond the licence key and the anonymous install ID; email support@skoolvideodownload.com to have those removed.

12. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not intended for users under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy if the Extension's functionality changes. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
